Whoopi Goldberg announces a major career move that’s unlike anything she’s done before

After more than 40 years in the entertainment industry Whoopi Goldberg has done everything from films to television to theater and more, but the EGOT winner still finds ways to grow professionally.

In the Wednesday, November 6th episode The Tonight Showthe 68 year old view Host sat down Jimmy Fallon to talk about their new project, which is sure to be a hit with sports fans around the world.

“You keep creating, you’re always thinking about something else,” Fallon said, introducing the topic.

“Because I never married well,” Goldberg joked. “If I had married well, believe me…”

“You wouldn’t do any of that,” Fallon interjected.

Goldberg shook his head in agreement.

“There’s this new project that you’re going to announce tonight…it’s a new sports network,” Fallon continued.

“Yes, I’m launching the first global women’s sports channel called AWSN,” Goldberg revealed.

“It will be the home for live women’s sports from around the world,” she said. “Everything from football, basketball, tennis, cricket… if a woman plays it, we show it.”

The star went on to talk about her inspiration for the network.

“I wanted to do this because I always wanted to play sports since I was a little kid. And my brother could play… but they would always say, ‘Oh hello, little girl,’ and that always put me off,” she said.

Goldberg also discussed the recent election in the interview. When Fallon asked her if there was “anything left to say,” she replied, “No, I think we all get it.”

“It happened. For some of us, things went our way. For some of us it wasn’t like that. This is the nature of a choice. That’s what happens,” she added. “You don’t always like what you get. But if you don’t like it enough, you can go out and protest. That’s the beauty of America. So it happened, you know?”
