Whoopi Goldberg is facing backlash after revealing financial problems

Amid the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election The view Co-host Whoopi Goldberg has some words — even if her comments didn’t go over well with some viewers.

To The viewOn the Tuesday, November 12, episode, the 69-year-old actress compared herself to members of the American working class. As the panel discussed the results of the election – which saw Republican nominee Donald Trump emerge victorious – Sara Haines, who voted for Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, said she understood why some working-class people voted for Trump.

“There were millions and millions of people who felt like they were being heard [by Trump]and that’s what I’m trying to address,” Haines said.

Goldberg, however, wasn’t thrilled – saying she could identify with working-class people but didn’t vote for Trump.

“I appreciate that people have a hard time, I do too – I work for a living!” said the Oscar winner. “If I had all the money in the world, I wouldn’t be here, okay? So I’m a working person, you know?”

Goldberg – one of the few stars in the world to become an EGOT winner – further explained: “My child has to support his family. My great-granddaughter has to be fed by her family. I know it’s hard out there.” Whoopi shares 50-year-old daughter Alexandrea Martin with her first husband Alvin Martin. Alexandrea, who is often called Alex, is the mother of three children – daughters Amara and Jerzey and son Mason – and the grandmother of 10-year-old Charli Rose Burr-Reynaud.

The Sister law Star was a co-host on The view since 2007. However, her current salary is unknown, in 2016 diversity reported that her salary as a co-host was in the “range of $5 million to $6 million.” Her net worth is estimated to be around $60 million. Suffice it to say, Goldberg’s comments did not go over well with viewers.

“Remind me…who’s in danger?” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), paraphrasing Goldberg’s famous line, “You’re in danger, girl.” Spirit.

Another accused Whoopi of being “out of touch.”

One person believes that claims similar to Goldberg’s are the reason for Harris’ unsuccessful campaign.

“This is why the left lost,” they wrote. “They are now the party of pretenders.”

At the time of writing, Goldberg has not directly commented on the backlash.
