Wild 5-2 Ducks (November 8, 2024) Game Recap

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Kirill Kaprizov scored two goals and an assist and the Minnesota Wild defeated the Anaheim Ducks 5-2 on Friday night.

Jake Middleton, Marcus Foligno and Marco Rossi also scored goals for Minnesota and Filip Gustavsson made 32 saves. The Wild improved to 7-1-1 on the road, the most on the road in the NHL.

Robby Fabbri and Mason McTavish scored and Lukas Dostal made 25 saves for Anaheim. Trevor Zegras was awarded a penalty kick in the second period, but when his backhander went over the crossbar, he missed the net completely.

The Ducks were defeated 14-5 on a three-game losing streak.

Takeaways

Wild: Kaprizov passed Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon to take the NHL scoring lead with 27 points. He has six points (two goals, four assists) in his last two games and continues to look like an early contender for the Hart Trophy.

Ducks: Anaheim struggled to win even when Dostal was at his best. When he has a rare break like he did on Friday, the Ducks are unlikely to be competitive. Although they outscored the Wild 34-30, they never led and created few prime scoring opportunities.

Key moment

Middleton, Foligno and Kaprizov all scored within six minutes of the first period, giving the Wild a commanding early lead. Middleton fired a wrist shot past Dostal at 7:31, Foligno scored on a 2-on-1 rush at 9:11 and Kaprizov fired a wrist shot from the faceoff circle on a delayed penalty with 7:28 left.

Key statistics

The Wild have averaged more than four goals per game in their last 21 road games dating back to last season.

Next

The Wild finish a three-game road trip in Chicago on Sunday and the Ducks continue their six-game homestand against Columbus.
