Wisconsin Badgers senior football assistant arrested for OWI

It’s game week for the Wisconsin Badgers, but some off-the-field news is making headlines as the week begins. According to a report from BadgerExtra, senior football agent Jack Del Rio was arrested early Friday morning for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI), 1st offense.

“Del Rio, 61, was driving in the area of South Segoe Road and Keating Terrace around 12:35 a.m. Friday when his vehicle struck a street sign, broke through a fence and came to rest in a yard, according to police Madison incident report,” wrote BadgerExtra’s Colten Bartholemew.

The Badgers had a bye week last week as they had a week off before their main game against the No. 1 Oregon Ducks this Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium.

Regarding the incident, Wisconsin Athletics released the following statement:

“Wisconsin Athletics is aware of the incident involving football staff member Jack Del Rio. We take such matters very seriously and continue to gather information.”

Hired by head coach Luke Fickell this offseason as a senior football adviser, Del Rio has been an insightful voice who the players say has helped everyone in meetings while also helping the coaching staff with the business side of things in the new world of college football.

He has had an illustrious coaching career, including head coaching stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders, and served as defensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders in the NFL before joining Luke Fickell’s staff this year.
