Woman allegedly traded 2-year-old child to drug dealer for meth

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (KOKH/CNN Newsource/WKRC) – A woman has been arrested for allegedly trading her 2-year-old child for meth and failing to report it for over two years.

Oklahoma City Police were alerted to a missing child in April 2022, at which point the child reportedly had not been seen for several years. It took another year for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services to receive the pick-up order.

When officers arrived at the child’s residence, they said they found Ashley Roland, the child’s mother, home alone.

Police said that in initial questioning, Roland said the child was with her father in Georgia, but authorities soon realized that was a lie. In a follow-up interview, authorities alleged that Roland admitted that she traded the child (who was 2 years old at the time) for meth.

Roland allegedly told police that the man she gave the child to was a drug dealer named Carlos, who had told her he was returning to Mexico when the two last spoke in April 2022. Roland claimed she didn’t know where the child or Carlos had been since then.

Roland was arrested and although authorities tried to increase her bail to $100,000, she was able to get out early.

“When they set bail, the person had already been released from jail,” said Mark Opgrande of the Oklahoma County Detention Center.

Roland will return to court in January, at which point she will have to post bail or return to prison.

The police emphasized that they are still looking for Roland’s child.
