WSOC back in the BIG EAST finals on Sunday

BOYDS, MD. – The UConn women’s soccer team (12-4-4) will play for a BIG EAST championship against No. 2 seed Xavier on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 (FS1).

The Huskies are returning to the BIG EAST Finals for the first time since returning to the conference in 2020 and since appearing in the 2008 BIG EAST Finals. It is the 12th time in program history that UConn has played in the BIG EAST Finals

UConn has won two BIG EAST Tournament Championships, the last of which was in 2004 (also won in 2002).

The 2024 Huskies are on a four-game winning streak with 2-0 wins over No. 4 seed Creighton in the BIG EAST quarterfinals and No. 1 seed Georgetown in the BIG EAST semifinals.

PhD student and captain Lucy Cappadona has scored in consecutive games and the Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree has helped the UConn defense post four shutouts in the last five games.

Since returning to the starting lineup, graduate student Kaitlyn Mahoney has secured five shutouts in seven games.

The regular season meeting (Sept. 26) between the Huskies and Musketeers ended in a 1-1 tie, with UConn leading by 18-15 in shots Chioma Okafor This was the only goal for the Huskies.

UConn is looking for its first win against Xavier with an overall record of 0-3-1 against the Musketeers.
