WTA Final 2024: Iga Swiatek beats Daria Kasatkina, but waits for Coco Gauff against Barbora Krejcikova

Defending champion Iga Swiatek defeated Russia’s Daria Kasatkina 6-1 6-0 at the WTA Finals – but will have to wait anxiously to see whether she will qualify for the semi-finals.

Second seed Poland Swiatek dismantled Kasatkina – a substitute who replaced the injured Jessica Pegula on Wednesday – in just 51 minutes at the season-ending event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

However, Swiatek will be eliminated if Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova beats Coco Gauff, who has already qualified, to reach the last four later on Thursday.

Five-time major champion Swiatek, recently dethroned as world number one by Aryna Sabalenka, beat Krejcikova and lost to Gauff in her first two group games.

“It was a pretty solid game. It was a good performance,” said Swiatek.
